As someone who lives on an island, I’m lucky enough to be literally surrounded by beaches. And, as the Athena Beach Hotel wedding photography below can attest to, my job often leads me to these magical locations. Today, more and more people (like Sabrina & Harpreet, the lovely couple featured in this photoshoot) are choosing to get married at the seaside. But what, you may be wondering, makes the beach so special as a wedding destination? Is all that travelling and the potential hassle of dealing with wind, sand, and weather really worth it? Call me biased, but I have to say yes—it absolutely is worth it, and here’s why:
What Makes The Beach The Perfect Wedding Location?
Close your eyes and picture this: Warm lapping waves, tranquil evening sunshine dancing off of crystal clear water, and endless stretches of shimmering white sand. Just imagining the beach can instantly relax the mind, open the heart, and refresh the soul. It is this feeling of peace and openness, first and foremost, that makes the beach an idyllic wedding location: As soon as we set foot on the warm sand and stare out over the ocean, we leave our everyday troubles and cares behind us. Standing before the endless horizon, we feel as though our hearts are free to soar. They are unfettered and ready to completely embrace the love we feel for our partner.
The beach is also the perfect location for couples like Sabrina & Harpreet who are seeking a more intimate, relaxed wedding. Because beach weddings frequently require that guests travel to the location of the ceremony, guest lists must be smaller; generally they’re limited to just family and close friends. This means that the happy couple have more time to spend with their guests—and with each other.
